The Dreaded State Test

Some kids say it’s useless, some kids just hate it. But almost everybody agrees that it’s the worst thing since World War II. Guess what it is? It’s THE STATE TEST!!! My name is Matthew Barotz, and I’m going to talk about how much people hate it.

Before I talk about how much everybody hates the State Test, I’m going to explain what it actually is. The State Test is one big test that includes 6 tests. There are three math tests and three ELA (English Language Arts) tests. For the ELA tests, there is one multiple choice test, one essay test, and one mixed test. For the math, all of the tests are mixed. The 4th graders have an additional science test, but I can’t talk about that because I’ve never taken it. Anyway, now that that’s done, I’m going to talk about how everybody in grades 3-8 hate the State Test.

Some people hate the State Test so much that they just want to rip it in half. Some teachers also strongly dislike the State Test. They say it’s a huge waste of time. The State Test takes away time that you could spend learning math, science, history, geography and a bunch of other stuff.

To show how much people hate the State Test, I interviewed some 4th graders named Andrew and Austin.


This is my story on the State Test. I think, after reading this story, that you have learned that A LOT of people dislike the State Test, and that the State Test is a waste of time. I hope you enjoyed my story, and maybe one day you’ll be a State Test hater yourself!

I agree, state tests are no fun. But they help you develop better test-taking skills and how to manage time, which is a crucial skill in middle school. At least they will be over by high school. Then we'll have to take regents.

i can see the bad things and good things of the state test. But i think u have to do the practice and it can take time out of learning.

The State test is good because it helps teachers see what they need too teach better and helps kids get ready for collage tests. It is also exciting knowing you finished. I also see the bad parts of the State Test but because I am in third grade I feel older and like a big kid taking the State Test. Just telling you second graders it is a lot easier then it looks if your teachers prepar you well. Hope I did well!!👍
