Edgewood School

New Lunch Program
by Ella Farnsworth and Olivia Unis

Ever wish we had better lunches at Edgewood? Well, next year we will! We are excited to say that next year we will be having another lunch program that is run by Chartwells.

Changes for Next Year

With Chartwells next year we will be able to order hot or cold lunch. There are a lot of changes, but one is it’s not going to start on the first day of school. Another change is you can choose any day you want to get lunch from school. You don’t have to sign up for the same thing for the whole year, and you can change what you want to order every day. You can order whatever you want the night before on an app. You can cancel and change your lunch item, and you cannot have seconds. You have to order by 10 pm. You will not be able to cancel your order if it's past 7 am.

Pizza or No Pizza?

Pizza lunch is under conversation to see if we are going to have pizza again. Do you think we should have pizza? We do! They are either going to see if we should have it once a month like the high school and middle school, or never again. Hopefully we have pizza still.

Vote below in the comments if you think we should get pizza or not!

For payment you have an app for the lunch program and your parents put money in your lunch account and get cold lunch or hot lunch. There is also a special password you have to use when you get your lunch, but you each have your own.

Instead of ordering from different restaurants, next year they will make the lunches in the high school kitchen and bring them to Edgewood. Your lunch will come with your name on it, and it will be whatever you ordered on the app.

One thing parents are worried about is allergies. With the app you can write all of your children's allergies by using the app on your digital devices. Make sure you don’t put extra allergies otherwise you might not like the food.

New Chef
New Chef

Another change is we will be having a new head chef named John Wazny. He is from Yonkers, and he likes to be called "Chef Mike." He used to cook at the fancy place first class passengers wait to get on a British Atlantic flight. Ella went to the cook off at the high school in the staff dining room and got to try their food. They decided that Chef Mike was the best cook, who is now our head chef.

With a new chef, more choices, and more delicious food, we're sure you'll love next year's lunches!!!

Wow! This new lunch program sounds great! I can't wait to try it! Can the teachers order from there, too??? 😀 This is an amazing article written by some great young reporters!!! What a wealth of information, and so organized! I'm glad I read the article because I had no idea about all these changes!

I think that it is great to get a new lunch program because the last lunch program you had to sign up for it for the whole year, and some of the lunches I wanted but others id didn't so it is great to get a new lunch program so we can get lunches on the days we want it.
