Plants In Action!
by Max Meizlik and Seamus Finn

Mr. Cadalzo's class has been learning about plants! We are growing mustard plants in our classroom.

We learned plants grow up towards the light and plants help keep the air clean. We are learning about the life cycle of plants. It starts as a seed, grows roots, then grows a stem and leaves.  After that, the flower turns into a fruit, and then the fruit drops the seeds.

Plants in Third Grade

We built this fun contraption to plant the seeds in so they get watered. We filled a box with water and sliced slits in the top cover. Then we used absorbent paper that sucked up the water and took it to the top of the container and to the plants' roots. We planted the seeds in dirt. We are putting water in the soil to get to the roots, too. We use sticks with names on them to keep track of who the owners are.

Our plants are growing really fast. Mr. Cadalzo says that our plants are the growing the fastest he has seen in his third grade classes. Our plants like to wrap around poles. Some of the plants have flowers and fruits already. Some of them are about to reach the top and hit the light!

We hope you get to grow plants in your class sometime, too! AWESOME!!!!!

Great job (as usual), Seamus! Our class plants are really feeling our class love!!! Keep up the good work and soon we'll have a complete flower shop. Great planting!

Smiley  Mr. Cadalzo said on November 12, 2014:
I'm so glad our plants are growing well this year! It's fun to see the complete life cycle from seed to seed, and we're almost there! It almost makes dissecting the dead bees, gluing them to sticks, and pollinating the flowers worthwhile! :-) Great job, Seamus and Max, with the story! I love how you told what we are doing, and you got some great pictures, too!
