Hey kids, when you’re in 3rd grade and over, you’ll do the MLB Run in PE. The MLB Run is where you run around the gym. You’ll have a partner, and they’ll count your laps. When you are running, you are running the distance from different MLB stadiums in the USA. Mr. Weigel, our PE teacher, chooses different stadiums every year. If we can run to each stadium by the end of the school year, grades 3-5 ONLY get free recess for the rest of the afternoon at some point on a day that is close to the last day of school. It will be a full day the day we will get free recess on.
If you really want to get recess for rest of your afternoon, you should run a lot when you are in grades 3-5. Grades K-2 don’t run, to be clear. We asked Mr. Weigel questions, and we will tell you the answers. So, he came up with it because he likes baseball and he’s a huge NY Yankees fan. He thought that it was a good way to bring running and baseball together. He chose running because it’s healthy. The total distance this year is 2,424 miles!! He plans to keep it until he retires.
