Hello. I am going to tell you about the Thanksgiving Drive. Everybody was supposed to bring food for the poor. Each class collected a certain type of food: bread, stuffing, sweet potatoes, berries, and others. The poor are less fortunate than we are, so we give them food so they have a nice Thanksgiving.
If you bring in food, you get a feather. You write what you're thankful for on the feather, and the feather goes up on the bulletin board outside the gym to make a giant turkey.
Each class takes its food to the custodians who store it until Thanksgiving. They put all the food in boxes to get it ready. Then they give it to the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army takes the food to a group of poor people in Westchester. For more information on the Salvation Army, click here.
On November 26, 2014, Alexis Castillo and Felipe Concha from the White Plains Salvation Army Core came to Edgewood to pick up all the food. At our Thanksgiving Assembly, they thanked us for collecting food for the poor.
This is one of the best years of donations. Everybody likes Thanksgiving, even the poor, so thanks for your donation. Now go get your stuffed turkey, it might be ready! Have a good Thanksgiving, and take care of the poor and your family.
